My mental illness.

I've had some people freak out when I've said that before, saying that I shouldn't want to change my personality and that it's internalised ableism, but fuck that, I would be so much happier if I didn't have borderline personality disorder. It would be really nice if I wasn't constantly second-guessing everything and suspecting that people thought the worst of me and having emotional responses that were way out of proportion.

(I've also had people tell me that my diagnosis is sexist because it's a man telling me, a FAAB female-presenting person, that my emotions are invalid. The thing is, in this case? They are.)

There's nothing I hate more than people - especially if they are perfectly healthy themselves - who try to dictate that you should be happy about and embrace a mental illness. Fuck no, it's your mind and you have every right to wish for an intact one, the way a non-able bodied person is allowed to wish for their disability to be gone. No-one is allowed to tell you to be happy about being not healthy but yourself. You're not saying that everyone who shares your illness should wish for it to be gone, after all.
