I can accept Matthews and Styles and Pellew (who also appeared a lot less in the books) more easily than Archie though. Their extended scenes didn't completely change Hornblower as a character or his relationships to other original canon characters. Unlike Archie. In addition to that, he always felt a bit underwritten to me, as a character. Yes, he has lots of screentime, but he's not a good character, IMO.


But the whole mutiny plot was very different from the book in the end.

I know. I always have to laugh at Pellew's line on the show that goes something like "we shouldn't try to hang him, we should promote him", since that is what happened in the books. They didn't even to face a court martial, because nobody cared. It was great.
