[American Horror Story: Coven]

The last ep made it pretty obvious that's what's going to happen.

(Anonymous) 2013-10-31 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry to hear that.

On the positive side, getting a real happy ending in this show is close to impossible, so even if LaLaurie "redeems" herself she'll also suffer eternally.

I have a feeling she'll die at the end and move on, maybe when Marie Laveau gets killed her immortality spell will go away.

You make an excellent point; even if she redeems herself she won't get a fairytale ending.

oh :(

i'm glad i didn't keep up with it after all

(Anonymous) 2013-10-31 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really good.

IA. This season sucks.

It's obvious LaLaurie will get some redemption, however I still think what will happen to Marie Laveau is still up in the air. Of course I may be being willfully ignorant because I hope Marie and the Witches make peace again by burning Fiona at the stake and ushering in a new Supreme.

I've been rooting for Marie and would love to see this happen.

Well, it's not like Marie Laveau is a saint. After all (Spoiler spoiler!!)

She's keeping that poor, tortured minotaur-man chained up for decades so he can, apparently, do her bidding. Seriously ucky. And yes, before anyone jumps in all hot and bothered, i'm aware that she's nowhere near as bad as LaLaurie, but still....

(Anonymous) 2013-11-01 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, all of the older generation witches seem to be pieces of shit at heart so far...

They really do, though Jessica's character surprised me (in a good way) with her 'i hate racists' comments.

And then she...well. Got mean all over the little actress, heh.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-01 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
But the historical Marie Laveau wasn't documented to have done anything nefarious.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-01 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
They're talking about the Marie Laveau on the show, not the real one.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-01 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just kind of sad that it looks like show-Lalaurie will be redeemed and show-Laveau will be the Big Bad, when real-Lalaurie was a singularly nasty piece of work and real-Laveau wasn't.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-01 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
It's not black and white; Jessica Lange's character, who Laveau is enemies with, is pretty bad herself.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-01 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
It's not racist of you to make predictions about what's going to happen with the show.

It would be pretty damn racist of the show itself to go that route. Which... Ryan Murphy. So I have no faith.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-01 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
it's not racist. stop seeing everyone only as the colour of their skin. an evil person is an evil person.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-01 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
But you can see how it might raise eyebrows to fictionalize the historical black non-evil person into an evil person, and fictionalize the historical white evil person (notable for being so sadistic to her slaves she freaked out her slaveholding peers) into a redeemable person, right? I wouldn't complain about either one alone -- voodoo queens in horror stories are often bad guys, and I think any character can be redeemable -- but both together makes me really uncomfortable.

[personal profile] glo_unit 2013-11-02 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Not to mention the overall poor way voodoo is portrayed in general by mainstream media.
