I'm pretty sure "twerk" has the added connotation that you're doing it with said booty pressed up against someone else's crotch. I could be wrong, but that was how it was used when I was in high school and how I still see it used now.

Huh, most crotch-to-ass (or crotch-to-crotch) dancing usually fell under the umbrella of "grinding" when I was coming up. But I could be wrong, I wasn't exactly the person people discussed these things with as a matter of course.

Hm, I heard "grinding" a bit too, moreso when I was younger. Maybe "grinding" refers specifically do what the person in the back is doing.
