Because there are many shows where there is a "casual" lesbian couple (as in, treated the same as het couples) than gay couples. In what I'm watching now I can count (main characters):

Lesbian couples:
- Grey's anatomy
- Orphan Black
- Under the domes
Lesbian singles:
- Once upon a time

Gay couples:
-none
Gay singles:
- Orphan black (and he's a prostitute)


Sooo yeah. Last time I saw a gay couple as actual characters on TV was QAF...
