It's exactly the same as a good majority of Western pop music, only with more dancing and shittier working conditions for their artists.

idk, i've found that it's easier to find songs with actual melodies and not overly synthed/autotuned stuff in kpop and jpop than it is in western pop.

like, as a rule i tend to dislike western pop music because (imo) it's more reliant on being catchy than it is on having a good melody. it's much harder for me to find western pop that i like than it is to find kpop or jpop that i like.

I'm the opposite. I prefer Western pop because you'll eventually find some decent melodies amongst all the crappy songs. But the majority of K-pop (at least the stuff in the charts) is autotuned synthed dance songs. It sounds like the sort of generic stuff that a DJ will throw together at the clubs.

I think this is just a case of confirmation bias, tbh. There's exactly the same amount of "actual melodies" in Western pop as in K/J-pop, and exactly the same amount of over-synthed club pop. If you prefer K/J groups, that's fine, but don't act like it's somehow inherently superior as an entire genre because it's literally the same thing in different languages.
