I know you say your mom is busy, but still try her. My mom was very, very sick this past month, and ikve been helping her as much as I can. My sister wants to help too, but my mom keeps brushing her off, saying "you don't have to." We're thinking it is because my mom knows my sister has a really busy life and doesn't want to intrude, but my sister is feeling a little left out and does want to help.

TL;DR: try your mom, even if she is busy, she might want to help you. And I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

Thanks very much for telling me your own story. You are right in that family usually likes to help, and I'm sure my mom does... I guess I also feel bad because I think maybe she thought I didn't want to talk, so she hung up pretty quickly. So now I feel kind of stupid and selfish if I called her again, since I probably gave her the impression in the first place.

I might try her tomorrow or Monday. I have an EEG on Monday, so I could probably call her then. I guess I just don't want to sound like a baby, calling her because I'm scared.
