No by like OP said, her friend the only thing her friend knew about WTNV was that there was a queer couple. That's it because that is all anyone talks about. That isn't so much reducing a character to being queer, but it is reducing a show (that frankly spends little time on the relationship) to a show about queer characters.

Sort of how many, many people who start watching Teen Wolf because of Tumblr are confused by the fact that Stiles and Derek are NOT in fact the main characters OR in a relationship.
