Link to a photo or picture who approximates how you visualize a fictional character

Obvious exception: if the photo is of an actor, you can't pick an actor who actually portrayed said character. Illustrations of said character are fine, though.

Can we link people that the creator of a work said inspired them when creating said character if now we can't unsee it?

Sidney Paget's illustrations are wildly inconsistent as far as character models go, but I think the image where he comes closest to approximating my mental image of how both Holmes and Watson look is this one. Something about Watson's jaw and stature and shortish soldier-y hair and Holmes's wiriness and lively eyes and sharp eyebrows and really severe features capture some element that I always got from picturing them, but doesn't seem to be depicted very often:

aww yeah, I agree. This might be the closest to the canon Paget ever got.

ACD Holmes

That's him: http://windmaedchen.deviantart.com/art/Reichenbach-276339012
(beware: Reichenbach).

I don't think I've seen a Watson that struck me as the Watson, though.

I do adore Paget, but somehow I've never viewed his illustrations as "canon". They were always an interpretation of sorts (it may be due to the fact that I grew up on books that had different illustrations or none at all).

I don't have a specific photo in mind, but Haymitch will always be Bruce Campbell in my head.
