Freshman year of college, I had a good roommate for the first semester. She was nice, and while we weren't really friends we got along well.

Second semester, she got a long-distance boyfriend from her hometown. Since he was long-distance, she would call him in our room. Every single night. For about 30-45 minutes. I usually tuned her out, but it got hard during finals, when they were having a fight and she got a little bit angry. At one point during the semester, he stayed over in our room and shared the tiny twin bed with her... without telling me. So I got home from hanging out with friends, got up in my lofted bed, looked over and saw them sleeping. That was a bit weird.

My friend had a REALLY awful roommate, though. He made food in their room with a hot plate (against regulations, mind you) and made stuff with protein powder. So the room smelled and there was weird protein powder everywhere. At one point he put his cell phone under my friend's pillow so my friend would wake up and turn off the alarm so that the roommate wouldn't get up (yeah I don't get it either). The door knob was perpetually sticky and gross. At one point the roommate didn't want brightness at all, so he put up tin foil over the window. When my friend complained, the roommate put a tin foil pod around his bed to keep out the sun. I saw it and nearly died laughing.

30-45 minutes? My current roommate skypes her boyfriend for six hours straight at least three nights a week. -.- I've never hoped for someone else's relationship to fall apart before...
