Totally with you.

I lump it under the general problem of "thoughtlessness".

I had a roommate who never did dishes (they were my dishes) and would dirty all the pots and pans cooking and I'd just come home and ;____; because there was nothing to cook in.

Also I'm an anal retentive shit about shared living spaces. The living room always had 5+ pairs of her shoes and socks, and books and shit all over the table. I wish people understood that taking up room is fine, as long as you clean up a bit and take all your shit to your batcave at the end of the night.

ugh.

and I'm about to start looking for a house for school in Jan! Hopefully grad students are better? (doubt it!)

yeah I leave clutter in the living room sometimes esp. if I'm busy/stressed, but I try to confine it to one area. In general I do prefer to be neat.

Right now my roommie has a blanket draped all over the couch (sometimes she'll randomly sleep there which is awkward if I come downstairs and want to eat or clean the kitchen or whatever) but at least it's just a blanket and I can move it if I want to sit there.

She's generally not that bad about being neat except in the bathroom (though I'd argue that's the most important room to be neat in). The pee on the seat blows my mind. I feel like people should know how to take care of that when they're children.

Hopefully grad students are better?

...my roommie is a grad student. xD;; I lived with a different grad student last year though who was a much better roommate, though we hardly ever talked because we had nothing at all in common. The one thing she did that really pissed me off was put a Mitt Romney sign in our front yard once when I was gone for the weekend without asking or telling me. I took it inside and messaged her that I'm not comfortable with her sharing views that represent both of us when I don't agree with them. So she put it in her front-facing window instead. sigh. (She's an extremely conservative person. That sort of annoyed me in general, but that was the only time it factored into her status as a roommate.)

Aaaggh your roommate sounds like two that I had once. Neither of them would ever do dishes (or very, very rarely) to the point that the sink was almost always full to the brim, and one of them kept these enormous piles of laundry on the BATHROOM COUNTER. And spread out all her stuff on the couch after she'd been sitting there, including dirty dishes sometimes.

Also, we had about a square foot total of counter space and it was always filthy. I don't understand this. It takes about two seconds to wipe your crap off. It's a SQUARE FOOT. ???!!!?!?

...yeaaaah. I'm so happy to be living alone now.

well mine is not that bad with clutter. she does do her dishes. that reminds me though of my friend's roommates from last year. their dishes were always completely overflowing the sink, piled on the counter...it was pretty gross.
