I can't recall. I was raised in a cult with an obsessive fixation on sex and sexuality so I was probably always aware of the concept from an early, early age.

I do remember that from a combination of seeing a sex scene in a movie, experiencing arousal in my clitoris, and reading about sperm swimming towards the egg for a long time I didn't realize there was penetration and just thought the penis was thrust between the labia and rubbed over the clit (the hymen eroding from the friction) and then the sperm just swam towards the vaginal opening until one day out of nowhere (when I was eight maybe) I was thinking "Could someone fit their penis inside someone's vag... oh, hey that's probably how they do it."
