My first roommate in college was really irritating. Due to various housing issues I ending up getting stuck in a room with two roommates (I was originally assigned to one room and then apparently less than a month before school was set to start it turned out someone else had a health issue and the school moved that person into my room and then basically started playing roulette with my housing situation), which I was already kinda dreading because I'm quite shy and have social anxiety issues, and even sharing with one person made me nervous.

My one roommate was fine and we pretty much became allies in dislike against our third roommate. She was always on the phone at all hours and if another call was incoming she wouldn't hang up on hers, even if she knew one of us was waiting for a call. For example, my parents always called Sunday at 7-ish and I let her know this, and more than once I know she just ignored the call waiting and kept talking, even though she'd been talking to the same friend for hours all day. She also sometimes hid the phone under her pillow or in her sheets and then we couldn't find it. My other roommate had a long distance boyfriend and was constantly having trouble answering his calls because we'd have to tear the room apart to find the phone. She would have the TV on all the time, even if she wasn't watching anything in particular and my other roommate and I pretty much constantly had to go somewhere else if we wanted to study. At night she used to watch Golden Girls reruns well into the night while we were trying to sleep and never tried to turn the sound down or anything. She also invited one of her friends to stay with in our dorm for a week once without running it by either me or my other roommate. (She laid a blanket down for her friend right in front of my closet too, and I pretty much told her if I step on you getting ready in the morning, tough rocks.)

I finally snapped the last week of school, since I knew I wouldn't have to deal with her anymore. I was studying for a final in silence when she came in and turned on the TV and turned up the volume. I politely asked her to turn it down or turn it off, because I was studying. She told me to go study somewhere else then, and I pretty much got pissed and said okay, I'll start packing instead and pulled the coaxial cable (which I'd bought, the TV was also mine) out of the wall. Boom, no TV. We had a bit of a fight and in the end she stormed out and didn't come back for hours, which I pretty much counted as a win.

I'm glad you were able to stand up to her!!! Hideous selfish behavior.
