I hated it. It only hammered in how much Asami and Korra are not friends. At all. Korra went after Mako when she knew Asami was dating him. Asami was just 'that guy I'm madly in love with's girlfriend'. Then, even after Asami lost her father and became homeless, she still hung all over Mako.

Now it's reversed. Korra's whole tribe is in a civil war. Her father is a fugitive. She's failing as the avatar AND no one will help her. And Asami just jumps Mako's bones less than 24 hours after learning he was single. Neither of them really care about how the other one feels, and honestly Asami is a lot more cold in my opinion. At least Korra told Mako to go back with Asami after she lost her father. Asami doesn't seem to remember Korra or the civil war really exists anymore. (To be fair Korra has had more dialogue with LIN than Asami, so I don't really buy that they're friends. More like acquaintances)

Even in terms of high school drama, I think OP has a point; girls certainly did backstab each other this way over romantic conquests (as did boys for that matter) but if they did so, they were certainly not friends. At least, no friends that I ever had. Hell, even my worst enemy in high school told me before she went after my ex.

So yeah, that kinda proves OP's "they're not friends" thesis, even if it is still totally realistic high school behaviour, as you point out.

That's not the behavior of friends, though, even if teenagers do that. It gets even worse when you look at the LoK fandom and it's "Korra and Asami, epic friendship of perfection that will save the world!" stuff. There just isn't any canon to back that up right now.
