I try and answer people for two reasons. The first is that I figure if someone can take the time and respond, I can take the time to respond back. The second is that I know how someone talking to you, even just a little bit can make your day better.

My only regret is when someone talks about something I have no idea about (and I don't have the time to research it real quick), so I can't give them a more specific response about the subject.

I totally agree!

People don't have to respond but it's always nice to see that someone thinks you're worth spending a little time on. Comments are nice to get even if the person replying doesn't have in-depth knowledge of the subject, so I don't think you have to worry about that.
