I get it because, say, you like Scott. You think it's only reasonable to like Scott. He's adorable, etc. But you look around and people ignore him in favor of Derek, Stiles, and Lydia. So you're like what's the common denominator? It's jaded but I've had the same suspicions about, say, interracial pairings I really like that are ignored in favor of less obvious white pairings. It's like, liking Scott makes so much sense to you, you think there must be a reason for someone to NOT like him, based on something other than his great character traits (so maybe dislike is based on a different, deeper reason).

But a lot of what happens in fandom, especially when a character / pairing gets big is that people write it / draw it for the numbers. Half of the stiles in fandom is Scott. But people like to write the things that get them the most page hits.

Except that the reasons people have issues with Scott are really really obvious. The Scott stans just don't like those reasons or think they're stupid reasons, so obviously.....racism.
