I think it was more referencing how people write different groups as if they really were a part of it and get credit for it instead of writers who are part of those groups getting any recognition. For example, a gay man is gonna know much more about male gay culture than a straight man or woman ever will. Even if the straight people research it heavily, they'll never really live it. It doesn't mean they shouldn't ever write outside their own personal demographic, but rather to be careful and actually do heavy research and really consider it instead of writing what they /think/ different groups experience. It's become a nasty habit for people to write shit they really don't know anything about and then get defensive when their ignorance is pointed out.
