Re: Stupid addictive Flash games
(Anonymous) 2013-11-07 03:51 am (UTC)(link)Re: Stupid addictive Flash games
haha ok, well I have a fuckton of favorite games so I won't share them all, but here are some of my favorites in various categories. (Just going through my favorites list on Kongregate; there are others, but these are many of my top favs.)Never mind this list became pretty long. Whoops. For puzzle/logic, I really like:
Electric Box and its sequel, Electric Box 2; Rube Goldberd-esque games of chain reactions.
10, a very relaxing and addictive puzzle game with a simple premise and good mucis. Very polished game.
Combine, also a super relaxing game which is really good for unwinding imo. I was addicted to it for a pretty long time after I discovered it.
Turn-based strategy:
The Battalion series, Nemesis, Ghosts, and Vengeance, are basically flash versions of Advance Wars. One of my favorite series. Skirmish is a single-level preview for Vengeance. Also, there is apparently a multiplayer version called Arena. (!!!) I'm kind of excited as I did not know about this; found out about it just now while searching and I'm excited to try it :3
Xenosquad is one of several games that are basically turn-based shooter/mission games with upgrades; this one's my favorite. Has really cool graphics and a cool setting.
If you like the premise of classic Risk, try Hex Empire and Dice Wars. Dice Wars was my introduction to flash games (my dad showed it to me probably about six years ago, and he jokingly regrets it now). Hex Empire is one of my very favorites; it has sequels (at least one, and another in the making) but I haven't really tried them.
Live Puzzle and Live Puzzle 2 - fun twist on jigsaw puzzles.
Card games:
Castle Wars 2 is a very good game, though the multiplayer can be a bit buggy. The campaign is still pretty fun too though. It's not a CCG since all the cards are available right away except for a few unlockable ones, but you can change your deck to your heart's content to develop different strategies. There's a Castle Wars 1, which is cute, but it doesn't hold a candle to the sequel.
If you do like CCGs, go for Tyrant. It's a very polished game with an enormous card pool and regular updates containing new booster packs. It has a few drawbacks: one, it's an energy-based game (which I generally hate on principle, but this one is so good that I played it anyway), and two, because it's an online multiplayer, it's really hard to collect everything without buying credits for cards and packs. HOWEVER, the campaign is still super fun so you don't even have to play multiplayer, and I've never paid a dime for stuff on it and still had a lot of fun collecting and deck building. I played this game every day for months.
Real-time strategy:
This is probably my favorite category so brace yourself...
The Space Game, another one of my all-time favorites. Very polished, great gameplay, great music and graphics. It's a real-time defense/resource management game. (I really like sci fi games/games set in space btw.) It has a sequel which I don't think is quite as good as the original, but still very enjoyable: The Space Game: Missions.
I enjoy the Creeper World series, though it has a very different feel. The best one to start with is Creeper World: Training Sim. If you play all four, three of them have pretty much identical gameplay just with different maps, but the fourth one, Academy, has a totally different play style than the other three (I like it just as much though if not more). Evermore has a new map every day. User Space just has a bunch of extra maps.
Pandemic 2 is really creepy, but it's a really interesting take on real time strategy. Requires some patience, though.
Tentacle Wars is fun. It also has a sequel, The Purple Menace. If you like those, another good game in the same vein is JellyGo!.
Royal Envoy is one of those games that's just a free version of a $20 PC game they're trying to sell you, but the part that you can play is fun while it lasts.
Takeover is one I played recently that's quite good.
Obliterate Everything 2 is excellent. I didn't care for the first of the series, but this one is really good. Also very sci-fi and it has awesome music (there's actually a Band Camp page with the soundtrack to this game, that's how good it is).
Tower Defense:
Everything in the Bloons Tower Defense series is fun, and for optimal fun play them all from 1 to 5! (that's what I did) My favorite though is BTD4. (Also, the original Bloons games aren't really my style, but they're popular. They would qualify as puzzle, with a smidge of shooter? you throw darts at
balloonsbloons)Demonrift Tower Defense - another good TD game.
Cursed Treasure 2 - I've never played the first in this series; I just discovered this one a week or so ago. It's by the same studio as Takeover, and I quite like them.
I enjoy all the games in the Mushroom Madness series. The link is to the first, but there are three and the sequels are progressively better imo. It's sort of a cross between classic tower defense and classic upgrade game, with super adorable graphics.
RPG:
Castaway is really good, though it gets redundant partway through, so I've never kept interest long enough to beat it.
Chibi Knight is cute. It's not as polished as Castaway, by a long shot, and it's relatively short, but it's fun. (Fun fact, the adorable knight is voiced by the writer's young daughter.)
Launch/upgrade:
MegaDrill, addicting and easily my favorite take on classic drill games.
Into Space 2, sort of an equal-but-opposite of the previous. It's what is says on the tin: launching into space.
Glean is a little bit different. It's a drill game without the "launch" component, but it has similar upgrades. It's a really good game with more complex gameplay than the other two, and it has a plot. It's very sci-fi with a really interesting premise (at least imo).
Random:
I'm not much of a platformer, but I gotta give a shoutout to Helicopter. (This isn't the first version I've played and it's not the original, but they're all basically the same. Hold mouse to go up, release to go down, don't die.)
If you're looking for something really juvenile, silly, and asinine, I have to admit I liked Don't Shit Your Pants. It's very short and very silly.
Reclamation is a wonderful incarnation of the classic game Qix, with great music, great animation, and really pretty space pictures. Very polished game.
Trigger Knight is a cute fun game that's basically just mouse-clicking and timing. Also not very long, but playing it makes me happy. Also has fun music.
Bloons Super Monkey is sort of a platformer; it's another spinoff of the Bloons series and quite fun imo.
I'm sorry for the long comment and laundry list, but you can obviously pick and choose - I wanted to offer options. The main reason I wrote such a long list is that I don't get to talk about flash games very often and it was fun to compile a list of favorites! So I guess I partly did it for myself xD; I really hope you find some games you like though!
This list is just my favorites from Kongregate, which is a great site. There are a few other sites - namely onemorelevel.com and ninjakiwi.com - that have games I like and not all of them can be found on Kong. It's still a pretty big list though so I will leave it at that.
/is slightly embarrassed by long comment but not ashamed that I love flash games
