Are you going to post this on r/atheism to show those guys you really mean business?

It's so hard, being an atheist. It's hard and nobody understands (except a big portion of the west that's rapidly increasing)

Guess who the asshole is now... mocking people for saying being an atheist in the US is difficult when they're considered the most hated minority in America, and some are kicked out of school/their homes for it? Classy!

That's kind of funny! First, this is one board where I can't just assume everyone's American! And two: HA! Are you gay or trans? Is someone going to beat you to death for being an atheist in most of the US? I did not think so!

Ooooh that good old fallacy... If someone has it worse than you, you can't POSSIBLY have it hard at all, and you are therefore deserving of no sympathy.

But on that note: "researchers found that Americans rate atheists below Muslims, recent immigrants, gays and lesbians and other minority groups" check out the U of M study if you like, and I've seen similar studies conducted with similar results as well.

OP

Swap the terms, and you'd sound exactly like those nutcase Christians who think atheists control the country and are plotting against them.

rofl it was a homestuck reference chill

(Anonymous) 2013-11-09 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
'Cause *everyone* knows homestuck references off the top of their head.

To be fair, being an atheist is much harder in the US than being a Christian. And being an atheist still runs the risk out verbal harassment and inability to be voted into major offices.

No point in being a dick about it.

Oh my god, verbal harassment?

Oh my god

(Anonymous) 2013-11-08 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's okay?

I'm not sure who you think is comparing atheism to racism or homophobia or something. I'm gay, so obviously I wouldn't do that. But I'm not sure what you're getting out of pretending that being "out" as an atheist in a society that still does cling to Christianity is never a problem. Or that it doesn't matter to you even if people do have problems.

Obama would have never been elected president if he had said he was an atheist. Yes, this is a problem. Many of our politicians see atheism as indicative and symbolic of all of our country's problems. Conservative religious rhetoric (and action) can be violent and ferocious to those who disagree.

So... what's up, seriously. No one has made the argument that you are really hoping (and pretending) they are making, that atheists have it so damn hard. But non-Christians don't necessarily have it easy, either.

I think I got you mixed up with the unreasonable anon--sorry about that.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-09 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
You're still an asshole.

Nope, apparently I didn't after all.
