Doctor Who was one of my fandoms up until quite recently, so go for it and I can tell you how well you're doing.

Okay, here goes...

There's this race of advanced time-traveling aliens called Time Lords with two hearts, who live for centuries because they can regenerate into new bodies when they die (possibly a limited number of times, but that may be up for debate.) The Doctor is currently on his twelfth(?) regeneration.

Time Lords write in complex combinations of circles and pick the names they'll be known by according to their temperaments or ambitions, hence why the protagonist of the show is The Doctor and his arch-frenemy is/was The Master (who hears drums in his head and has tried to take over the world or the Universe more times than Pinky and the Brain.) There is/was also a female Time Lord called The Rani. The Time Lords' planet, Gallifrey, blew up, and The Doctor may or may not be the last of his species.

Time Lords travel in (sentient? AI?) vehicles called TARDIS, which can take the form of different objects. The Doctor's got stuck as a London phone box at some point, and he either can't, won't, or hasn't fixed it. I gather the TARDIS can be rather opinionated at times and may not go where she's steered?

The Doctor likes humans, and often travels with them. The humans who hang around with him are called Companions. Some of them are named Sarah Jane, Rory, and the very horny Jack Harkness (who was also in Torchwood, and became some kind of fixed space-time nexus or something.)

Some of the monsters the Doctor fights include the Weeping Angels, who appear to be statues but are actually time-manipulating aliens who do bad things to you if you look at them but then look away or blink or something? And can turn you into one of them? And the Daleks, who look like giant self-propelled salt and pepper shakers or R2D2 with a terrible skin condition, and want to exterminate everyone. And also a lady who's nothing but a face stretched on a frame, ew. (According to someone on my dash, there's also some really horrible species whose symbol matches one on Supernatural which suggests they may be demons, but that's all I know about it.)

Randomly: apart from the aforementioned attempted taking over of stuff, the Master once died and refused to regenerate, and the Doctor was terribly broken up about it. Several of his Companions have also died, and he married one of them at some point (presumably she was alive at the time.) The 2012 Olympics are one of those fixed points like Jack for some reason. The Doctor can also communicate with infants, and he keeps hoping he'll regenerate some time as a ginger.

This is the actual greatest comment I have ever read on Dreamwidth in my life. I am going to copy it and save it forever. *all the applause*

You are 100% correct on every single point except the 2012 Olympics and only a couple companions have died, not several. Some of your perceptions about how prominent certain elements are in relation to others is a tad skewed, but you are not wrong about anything else. :D

Oh and just to elaborate, the deal with the Weeping Angels is that they can only move if you're not looking at them. The moment you look at them they are forced to freeze in whatever pose they were in at that millisecond until you blink or look away.

*all the applause again*

*Bows* Thank you, thank you! I suppose it was inevitable that at least one bit of somebody's headcanon would sneak in there. *Crosses the Olympics off list of Whostuff* I really have no idea about relative importance for the most part, just what I see mentioned most often.

Ahh, so that's how those work. I knew once you looked at them you couldn't look away, but I was never quite clear on why.

The Olympics thing isn't really a headcanon - what happened was that in the runup to the London Olympics, it became kind of a widespread joke that, because the Tenth Doctor lit the torch in an episode, it was now a fixed point and David Tennant had to do it in real life in order to preserve the stability of the universe.

Same anon

Oh yeah, and I forgot about the sonic screwdriver. Which apparently is less a screwdriver and more of a magic wand disguised as technolergy. XD

[personal profile] intrigueing beat me to it, but you are almost 100% spot on for every single detail of that, up to and including the 'indistinguishable from magic' of the sonic screwdriver.

Most of the points where you're even a bit off (aside from the Olympics and the exact way the Angels function*) are not so much wrong as merely incomplete or omissions. The foes you list, for example, are entirely accurate but some are significantly more prominent than others, and I'm mildly surprised at their inclusion when certain other important enemies didn't make the cut.

Bravo, anon, bravo.

*although canon is annoyingly inconsistent on that front

Hehe, thanks! As I mentioned above, it's not so much that anything didn't make the cut as that I just listed what I could remember without looking (and was certain was DW and not anything else.) I guess someone on my dash must really have been struck by the stretched-face lady, because I've seen her several times.
