Same. I couldn't stand him for pretty much the entire series, then in ADWD he somehow got magically better (while Dany got a hundred times worse).

Overall though, I've found GRRM's three favourites - Dany, Jon, and Tyrion - a bit too obvious from the beginning and it really ruins the whole "anyone can die" message of the series and feels tremendously unrealistic.

I definitely agree about the favouritism, though with Tyrion I don't mind it as much since he's my favourite too. For the most part, Jon and Dany have never really interested me, but Jon's latest plot has been awesome and things are at least looking up for Dany, IMO.
