Bag of dicks and dick bag are phrases that really bother me. That people don't see it as a slur against men -- equating the very thing that makes a man a man -- while at the same time railing against cunt being a slur that calls womanhood bad just baffles me. Especially when it's pointed out to them, and they're like "Yeah, but I've never really seen it that way."

But I keep quiet un-anon, mainly because the first reaction is always that I'm saying "dickbag" is AS BAD as "cunt" when it's not because OMG HISTORY (and yes, I know and I agree) and the second -- or perhaps simultaneous -- thought is that I must be an MRA piece of shit.

When I'm not, I just think that if a concept is unacceptable, it's unacceptable, regardless of who the focus is. And the concept of saying "this thing that is a symbol of an entire sex is synonymous with bad" is unacceptable.

But a bag of dicks isn't a man it's literally a bag full of disembodied penises, they could even just be dildoes or maybe they're from another planet where penises are just floating around everywhere, at least that's the image I always have, I'm sorry you don't have a sense of humor.

And a cunt isn't really a woman, either, but that doesn't stop people from pitching a fit over that word. If using a body part to define/describe people negatively is bad for the goose, it's bad for the gander.

That's an interesting interpretation of Dune.

I believe it derives from calling someone a dick as in jerk, so someone who is a really big jerk is an entire bag of dicks. It's not merely using dick as a negative, it's using it as a stand-in for a specific negative trait, jerkiness.

Why dick has come to mean jerk I do not know.

I also don't know why people refer to the external genitalia as junk. Surely that should be the opposite of junk?

But that's the thing, again. Put in a slightly different light, it's unacceptable to call someone gay when what you really mean is dumb, and cover your ass by saying "I didn't mean like *gay* gay. I just meant it as stupid." So why then is it okay to call someone who's being a jerk a dick? And without that, you don't get to "bag of dicks."

But "gay" as an insult doesn't mean stupid necessarily. It's... flexibly negative. It might mean stupid, it might mean insufficiently traditionally masculine, it might mean... nothing specific, just an insult.

It's like "you're an asshole" versus "you're an armpit". Calling someone an asshole means something specific, whereas calling someone an armpit is negative, but imprecise.
