haha

maybe try teaching her about type advantage?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, that might be a better strategy. Or let her play how she wants.

Your text says Piloswine, but your secret shows a Mamoswine. This is very disconcerting to me. D:

Came here to say this, or rather to ask: which is it, OP?

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
(go figure, case posts mine as the first secret on a day i'm busy)

I meant Mamoswine. I can't believe I did that. I can type the right name into google image search apparently, but not the actual secret. *face palm*

I would have pointed out that while she has one powerful pokemon, the opponents have more than one powerful pokemon and therefore, they can swap them out when they get tired and keep fighting. You cannot do that with just one. Simple logic, they'll have a grater chance of winning than you.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-09 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude

You're a dick. Just let her/him play the game and stuff it up until they work it out themselves. Your powerplay isn't cool in the slightest

(Anonymous) 2013-11-09 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
This. It's particularly obnoxious because I suspect it's a little kid. :/ I mean I may be wrong, but the use of the word "little" cousin makes me think it's someone under 16 at least, and the strategy they use is very little kid-like.

Like seriously you can't handle losing to a little kid and being proved wrong? What an ass.

My 9 year old daughter does the same thing as OP. So I sat down and taught her about type advantages, we made a little game out of it.

She still runs through the game using mega charizard x with fly first in every single battle and then proceeds to cry when it faints and she's left with a team of 20s. My husband beat the crap out of her team in a battle and she finally got the message and started leveling up other pokemon. She actually does very well now and holds her own in online battles! She still struggles with teaching her pokemon good movesets though but she's getting better.

It's not a case of "just let him/her play the game how they want" it's a case of "you're purposely making your life harder and getting upset over it".

(Anonymous) 2013-11-09 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Well...Technically it's doable to take on the Elite 4 [+ champion] with one pokemon. I've done it, you just have to load up on certain items and make sure your pokemon is...well. Tough enough, mostly.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-09 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I did that leveling up only one pokemon thing when I was little, too. I got out of it. Who fucking cares how she plays it as long as she enjoys it and having fun? You really are a dick.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-09 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to do the thing where you only train up one Pokemon as a kid, but it wasn't because I didn't know how to play, it was because fuck you I like this one best. I'd never play like that now but damn I had some good times mowing everyone down with my stupidly overpowered Raichu while severely neglecting all my other Pokemon.

Overpowered Alakazam for me, I wiped my brother's entire team of pokémon flat with it, including his Mewtwo.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-09 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh no someone is playing a game in the way you don't approve, so you try to beat them to make a point, fail, then get your presumably way heigher level pokemon to beat their team up because...because what, you're an asshole? just let your little cousin play the game and fuck off. jfc

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Look I get that you thought you were helping, but sometimes the best way is to show by example and let the kid figure it out own his/her own.

Plus, how do you know your cousin would have learned his/her lesson if things had gone the way you planned. Kids may be smart, but they can also be stubborn and don't always listen to their elders.

When I was six I beat Pokemon Yellow using only a Butterfree. It was tough and ridiculously frustrating frustrating at some points, but I loved that freaking Butterfree so much that it was completely worth it. (In fact, Platinum was the first game where I didn't just sweep everything with one Pokemon.) Let your cousin play how they want to play. They'll figure out or they won't, and even if they don't they'll probably manage to power on through somehow.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, you're not a terrible cousin.
You're just a full ass.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
I used to beat all the games by leveling up only my starter. As long as you have some revives, it doesn't take much effort. Then I trained the rest of the team when I was done.

You remind me of this guy I used to know who bought HeartGold and SoulSilver for his little brothers, tried to boss them around about how to play, went on an angry rampage and took the games away when they didn't listen and kept playing the way they wanted, and then was completely baffled when his parents made him give the games back and told him to leave his brothers alone. At least you seem to REALIZE you're being a douche, though.

Apparently Pokemon is serious business.

My cousins and I used to get really competitive over Tetris Attack and SNES Mario Cart. My cousins are younger than me so I guess this means we all hated each other. How dare I not let them win.

I mean my god, beating someone younger than you at a video game is like the worst thing you can do. I bet she's clinically depressed because this guy beat her favorite pokemon with a cartoon pig.

HOW DARE YOU ABUSE YOUR COUSIN OP

Congratulations, you're a total tool and have the maturity level of a three year old.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-10 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
dude. listen. i used to do the same thing, training a single pokemon the whole game. i beat the elite four with a level 80 totodile once. another time it was a sunkern. didnt even evolve them. i was fine but i also knew about move types, pokemon types and useful shit like ethers and elixirs.

you dont have to teach her that shes doing something wrong by only using one pokemon. the amount of pokemon doesnt matter as much as the way in which you train and battle with it. you probably would have been better off showing her how to use items since thats apparently the real issue
