I was just thinking about how amazing Michael Keaton is as Beetlejuice a few hours ago.

You are not supposed to like Beetlejuice at all, though. He's awful and disgusting and annoying and he fucks shit up. He's the villain.

Keaton is great AND perfectly disgusting in the role, true. One of the absolute highlights of his career in my eyes.

i assume the OP means they don't like how he was portrayed, rather than not liking him because he's the villain.

which....i guess i can understand. he does appear mid-way through the movie and completely changes the tone of the plot. he's supposed to be off-putting and gross but i can see why someone wouldn't like that. especially when the movie was only goofy and mildly-creepy up until that point.

I always hated the dude, mostly because I saw one or two scenes of Beetlejuice as a kid and thought it was an actual horror movie rather than a parody so he scared me shitless.

oh gosh me too! The resurrection scene with the parent gave me so many nightmares as a kid. When they're floating above the table and start to age rapidly and crumble away, absolutely terror for me.

There are some very scary scenes in Beetlejuice. The part where they distort their faces to scare the family is fucking horrifying.

My BFF and I just found out there's possibly going to be a sequel, with Keaton reprising his role. I said, "But I won't like it unless Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin are in it, too!" Because they made the movie to me.

Oh man, I always forget that Alec Baldwin is in Beetlejuice. He looks so different nowadays. I wonder if he even remembers how to play adorable/dorky love interest.
