Food! Can we make this a food thread?

For breakfast I had scrambled eggs, Pillsbury orange cinnamon rolls and green tea. I sort of skipped lunch because I had a late breakfast but I had a bit of a snack. For dinner, I'm getting Subway since I usually do that on Saturday nights after grocery shopping. I get a veggie sandwich on white bread, no cheese, usually wish lettuce, spinach, onions, tomatoes, black olives, green peppers or cucumbers (usually not both), and banana peppers. It's a shame they only have avocado in the summer; that's my favorite and I always get it. The banana peppers are to give it a different flavor since the avocado isn't there right now. For dessert I'll have a frozen fruit bar and maybe some chocolate.

What did you eat today? :3

Junk. Leftover breakfast tacos and cinnamon sugar pretzels. Also, two venti chai lattes because those things are like God nectar or whatever.

I have days like that. Once last year I ate Cheetos and half a bottle of warm beer for breakfast because they were there. o_o

Lattes are delicious but man they are expensive!!!

This has been like the last four months for me, haha.

I went to doctor the other day and I don't weigh as much as I thought and so that was my brain's invitation to give even less of a fuck about getting back to eating healthier.

I get a craving for Cheetos about once year. It's weird.

I was reeeally into Cheetos for the first couple months of this semester too. It seems I've finally burned myself out of it (for now - I'm sure it will be back).

Healthy eating is hard when it's hard to find healthy food that isn't either repulsive or expensive. =/ Also I eat when I'm stressed, especially junk food, and I'm stressed a lot what with classes and being generally dissatisfied with what I'm doing right now.

Oh god I don't want to list it out. In the past couple of months I've been paying off handfuls of extra expenses that came in all at once so money has been tight and I usually grocery shop to please my family first and this is the first paycheck that I actually have money for me in a long while so I went a little crazy. There was hummus and eggrolls and cupcakes and pineapple and that was before lunch.

I don't like the avocado at subway. It always tastes dirty and stale? :/ My Subway order is usually turkey or chicken and EVERYTHING vegetables with a side of the sweet onion dressing. I take the cucumbers out and eat them seperately because I don't like them in the sandwich but I'm too cheap to not take "free" cucumbers.

Everything vegetables is the way I do my sandwiches too.

I get so bent out of shape if my sandwich or burger doesn't have at least one vegetable. It's a problem.

Same here!

When I make a burger at home I cram as much avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion I can get on there. Same with tacos. And of course an avocado burger isn't quite complete without applewood smoked cheese, barbecue sauce, and turkey bacon. :)

I need to make burgers soon.

My new favorite vegetable sandwich is open faced sourdough with cream cheese, salt, black pepper and tomato. Also. I've done zucchini instead of tomato. It's so freaking good for some reason.

Do you make the patties yourself or get store bought?

Re: I like food. That was a good job whoever came up with it.

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2013-11-10 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
I make the patties myself. It's cheaper plus easier to portion control. Not to mention I'm usually seasoning the beef. The trick to avoiding shrinkage is to make a little well in the middle of the pattiy before you cook it. Also my little brother likes when I put the cheese slices inside the patty before I cook it.

Ooh, I'll try that. Is it a deep well or just a dip?

I like making my own patties, too. I've started putting garlic and just enough Worchestershire sauce to taste and they come out purdy darn good. How do you season yours?

Re: I like food. That was a good job whoever came up with it.

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2013-11-10 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
This is pretty close.

Usually burgers are spontaneous so I end up seasoning them by my kitchen inventory or whatever whim that strikes me. Usually every patty gets a different seasoning for each family member.

My grandfather likes sauteed onions and jalapenos (mixed in the patty so they don't slide out of the burger) and a seasoning mix of garlic salt, paprika, black pepper, ground cayenne, and a teeny bit of brown sugar.

If I'm making sweet potato fries my mom wants Soy Vay Island Teriyaki sauce filling in her patty.

My little sister likes chicken bouillon in hers? IDEK. I used to use beef bouillon because she always complained her burgers weren't "meaty tasting" enough but once we were out and she liked the substitution better.

My brother likes some premix hamburger seasoning I keep on hand for diced potatoes (and the aforementioned cheese filling). Some I bought, some I made. His favorite is a mixture of chipotle, curry, cumin, cayenne, dried garlic, black pepper and salt.

I personally stand by the classic garlic, salt, and freshly ground black peppercorns. With the BBQ sauce, avocado, sauteed onions, and turkey bacon I already have enough flavors to satisfy. :)

For breakfast I had a banana, toast, and a white chocolate mocha. Lunch was a romaine lettuce salad with grape tomatoes, carrots, and croutons with a glass of milk. And then an hour later I was still hungry so I ate 6 mint Oreos with a glass of milk. Looks like dinner will washed down with the tears of my self-loathing over the Oreos.

Oh bb. I've been there is terms of 'trying to have a healthy lunch but getting so hungry after it you eat everything'. My tip is: Make your salad HUGE with green stuff and tomatoes and carrots and capsicum - all the healthy stuff - so you'll be more likely to be full. Also, add avocado. Mmm. It's delicious, good for you, and having something with a bit of fat in it helps you feel satisfied. And plan your snack later - maybe some nuts, or wholemeal crackers and cheese, and a piece of fruit.

(Sorry if this advice doesn't apply to you/ is unwanted)

Rice chex for breakfast with grape juice. Um...some pineapple and apple slices my daughter cup up and some *very* bad bites of a strawberry. I think the strawberries are contaminated with something and i'll be taking them back - they had this very weird chemical taste.

A string cheese.

The last of the leftover pork ribs for dinner, yum, which i shared with the gog. She kinda drooled on my slipper. Sheesh.

the gog?

the dog?

XDDD

I'm sure she appreciated it! My dogs love treats like that, though the older one has a habit of basically inhaling whatever we give her and we joke about wondering why she loves it so much since she never even takes the time to taste it.

Heee. We call her the gog all the time. And pup. And puppet. :)

Yeah, she sits and watches us eat, and drools. So amazingly gross. But she knows she's going to get a taste, so....

Annalee and the Squeaky Snake.

She's a rescue mutt. Most obvious in the mix is lab and german shepherd, but who knows what else - she has a kind of greyhound shape to her, very nipped in waist, and her paws are very 'high up' on her pads, rather than all big and spread out, and her tail curls up over her back when she's happy.

One of these days we're going to do the dna test thing and see exactly what she is.

She's a sweetie. She and her fellow litter-mates were abandoned with mom out in the country and a tattoo client of my SO's found them and fostered them. She has three French Mastiffs - i could not *believe* how huge those dogs are! We went out to her house to see the pups and choose one, and those dogs....

It was like having ponies in the house. BIG ponies.

I finished making shepard's pie. I'm trying to get a really savory gravy, but it always turns out kinda thin. Still the best I've made so far, though!
