Re: Holmes is a drug addict

Since we are not bashing the author or being aggressive in any other way, I figure it makes no difference if the link is here or not. This author has plenty of fans who are of a different opinion and shall give them praise regardless.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-09 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)Yeah I didn't want to stir the pot in case I offended the reccer. Granada fans (I count myself in that number) certainly appreciate the pastiche as a good filling-in of DEVI and the touches that were Canon-compliant, were at the very least sourced reasonably. I.e., Holmes and his artwork was solidly referenced, but the direction the author took it in was a little meh. Again, given that in Victorian times, both Holmes and Watson likely would have been able to draw at least passably, given that both are well-accustomed to the use of quill/pen and paper, and Holmes' general character as described in the books, the shyness angle, and the whole interplay that came out of that, was definitely OOC to my thinking. A bit of projecting on the fic author's part? IDK.
I gave the story a lot of leeway though, in that I read the whole way through despite the flaws. I am very highly biased in favour of the Granada version of The Devil's Foot.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-09 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)Yup, that's the one I was thinking of. It's good, as far as reading pleasure goes -- hits that id-fic button just right and is well-written, but yeah...not incredibly believable for the characters and time period.
