I wouldn't reply to the top-level comment or to anons if it's not within 72 hours since it's unlikely to be seen, but if you want to reply to something someone logged-in posted months ago, go right ahead. Even if they're not interested in returning to the conversation, the worst that will probably happen is that you mildly annoyed someone for a few seconds.
