But most of the time, someone is not your type but NOT unpleasant to look at, you know? Most people don't find the majority of humans actively gross to behold (unless they are huge misanthropes and/or giant trolls).

The whole point of the word ugly is that it's meant to indicate either some kind of objective reality or, more often, some kind of cultural consensus POV. It's also an insult . When people call Megan Fox or Tom Hiddleston or Benadict Cumberbatch "ugly," they are almost never doing it to simply point out their own lack of physical interest... It's criticism, a value judgement, and an invitation to others to either agree or disagree. If it was truly only about not wanting to bang her, people would just say "eh, don't want to bang her." Calling someone UGLY is tantamount to saying they are unbangable, which is a way to taking one's subjective assessment and turn it into a form of critical indictment.
