Crazy plot twists thread

...and no, I do not mean "crazy" as in "very good".

I do highly suspect that the latest update I just made to my fic is going to make the readers go all like "hmm interesting good fic I'd like to read it- oh wait it's batshit insane". I myself get some "da fuck" vibe from it. It's a detective story, and the chapter contains a minor reveal that involves questionable physics and a creepy little girl :/ But then the original author wasn't alien to using weird plot devices, either, so it may just work out.

Not so much as crazy as infuriating. A Charles/Erik fic where it ends with Erik going back to his ex-wife who was only mentioned once previously in the story and WAS NOT TAGGED AT ALL.

Haha. You will be forever bitter about that one, won't you.

I got my own fandom stuff I'm forever bitter about. Like the authors who decided their fic wasn't getting enough attention and abandoned it with a passive aggressive "Bye, you ungrateful readers" note.

I have standard ones where the story seemed to have a certain topA/bottomB pattern that I ship (or even had it established) and suddenly A realizes they're a bottom now and everything is ruined for me.

Also one time I read this fic and it was really good and I was on the last chapter and it seemed to be a happy ending where my OTP could finally be together (because B was a folklore creature) when LITERALLY IN THE LAST TWO SENTENCES B DIED. There was no warning for major character death except in the notes at the end of the last chapter. AFTER IT HAPPENED.

+ I didn't read it but there was some commotion from people I follow on tumblr about someone's alpha/omega fic where A/B were trying for a baby and B had a miscarriage. It didn't end there, though- at the end A (the alpha) carries their kid. Quite a few people were not happy about that.

The first Warrior Cats series. (Oh, don't judge me.) Main villain is the main villain for six or seven books, and then in the last five pages of the penultimate book this other character comes out of nowhere, goes "O HAI, MAIN VILLAIN! *guts like a fish*" and is the "real" enemy for the last book.

So, I'm reading this really hot movie!Sherlock Holmes porn where he and Watson were newish lovers, right? It has Holmes wordlessly becoming extremely, unprecedentedly dominant and forceful in the middle of sexytimes, and making Watson (who was surprised but really turned on by it) submit and deepthroat him. There was a bit of mild humiliation kink and there were a couple moments that just barely teetered on the border of dub-con, but mostly it was just really, really, really, really, really, really hot.

Then all of a sudden, right after that looooong, awesome sex scene, there was a series of paragraphs detailing how Holmes turned cruel and closed-off and emotionally, sexually, and physically abusive towards Watson in the following months; followed by Watson starting to hate him, then meeting Mary, and repeating the cycle of abuse on her.

Wut.

A pal read one which was your standard domestic fic (except endlessly long) then halfway in, an insane work rival cuts the brakes of Character A and kills A's sister. It sounded nuts.

In one of my old fandoms there was a very well-written redemption fic that got subverted towards the end, where it turned out that the villain's supposed heel-face-turn had been an elaborate plot.

I still liked the fic and continued reading but damn that was a heavy blow. It's a character I've always seen as pretty likable and capable of redemption... I've never been so disappointed in a fictional character.

In the middle of a pretty run of the mill sex scene one characters pulls out a knife, stabs the other to death, and cuts up his body and starts eating it.

I don't even remember what fandom it was but it was one of the first fanfics I ever read, so I must've been 13 or so, and I was horribly traumatized.
