There was this epic (both in length and quality) fanfic for The Dark is Rising Sequence. A friend and I sometimes talk about the books and we both (she also read the fic) tend to forget the story wasn't one of the books, so little bits and pieces get mixed up sometimes and we both go "Wait, no, that was the fic, not the book, damn".

Oh man The Dark Is Rising! That series was so awesome and I haven't thought about it in years.
