What? A combover is where a guy grows his hair long so he can comb it over the bald spot. If anything, shaving your head completely bald if you are balding is the new combover.

A man with long hair who is going bald may wear his hair in a pony tail from time to time, but wearing ones hair in a ponytail is not indicative of balding, nor is it a cause.
