I like him. I wish he was in more stuff. So, you know, to each his own.

I have never been impressed with him.

Yeah, he definitely seems rather oddly cast as Dracula. Probably because he's Dracula posing as an American, which I still can't quite get my head around.

Also, Dracula in my head is also MUCH older than a thirty-something guy.

His American accent weirds me out a lot.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously? He's ruining everything you love by having been in two TV shows? There is something very wrong with your life and he doesn't have anything to do with it.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
And I love him, but wish he wasn't always in things I don't care about that I always end up giving in and watching anyway. We have opposite problems, but I totally sympathize with you, OP.

Haven't watched this yet but I've loved him in everything I've seen him in. Can I ask what about him bothers you so much?

OP

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Well... I don't think he's a very good actor. He seems to have one "type" he can play: super-intense dude who yells a lot while trying to bore holes in the scenery with his eyeballs. His expression ranges from melancholy glower to angry sneer without a whole lot in between. So when I see him in a show, it's not really about Henry VIII or Dracula or whatever, it's about JRM wearing dress up clothes and just doing the same stuff he always does.

That'd be a lot less irritating if I liked his approach to acting, but I don't. :-/

I agree with this.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I always seem to get him and Timothy Olyphant mixed up in my head. I'm right there with you about Dracula though, I'm only sticking around for Katie McGrath.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
wtf? he has only been the lead in two shows. he won a bunch of awards and critical praise for one and the other one is a new show but it's on nbc so it will probably get cancelled in a couple weeks. i hope he gets cast as the lead in a new show after that because i think he's really good.

His hilarious American accent is possibly one of my favorite things about the show though.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
See, I don't mind his American accent because he's playing a man who has never been to America. Instead, he's using his comrades, Van Helsing and Reinfield as guides on how to do a proper American accent. So, if it's bad. Blame them. And the fact that no one, so far, has called him out on the bad accent could only mean that no one in London knows how American actually sound like. Which, if you think about it, isn't that illogical since this a time before radio, television and movies with sound.

So, I guess I am just rolling with it.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Omg yes, OP. He makes me very uncomfortable for some reason and I just can't stand watching him.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I think he's alright. This facial hair on the other hand...

Hang On...

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
As a fan of both vampires and JRM, why the fuck wasn't I notified of this?

Same. Everyone thinks I should be madly in love with Velvet Goldmine, but I just can't get over how dreadful he is.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Am I the only person who's creeped out by this guy?

I just find him really creepy for some inexplicable reason, and not because he's playing a vampire.

Did you honestly think this show would be any better without him? It's horrible regardless

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
What has he been cast in besides the Tudors, this and that Elvis mini series?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-12 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, he didn't ruin Henry VIII. Neil Jordan did.

Is it just me or does this man not age? I mean I'm sure this picture has been airbrushed to hell, but I'm also judging by the promos I saw.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-13 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I only vaguely know who this guy is, but every time I see his name my brain autocorrects it to John Rhys-Davies, and I'm really surprised that everyone is orgasming over Sallah from Indiana Jones and/or Gimli.

Gosh I'm glad I had an excuse to get this off my chest. Thank you, op.
