Well, yeah, that was the point I was wondering about.

If ff.net gets more comments, it's probably b/c there are more readers, not because AO3 people are mean and stingy and don't want to leave comments.

(Though of course there's nothing wrong with posting wherever you want. I usually post to both and ff.net maybe gets a slightly higher comment total, but the ff.net comments are more likely to be moronic, tbh.)

Yeah, FF.Net reviews can be pretty dull. Content-wise, they are pretty much identical to a kudos at least 9 times out of 10 (probably more).

I don't usually find them dull, more like hilarious or offensive...

but yeah, I don't think either platform really encourages substantive commenting. That probably has as much to do with people downloading fic to read offsite as it does with anything, though.

I think it would be interesting if all the people who talk about wanting more substantive commentary on fic would set up a community or forum to produce that outcome -- there might be something like that, but I haven't come across it.

Yeah, I get when people wish there was more substantive commenting but I really don't get that from FF.Net and I never have.

about getting comments... there's was a barter review system on one fanwork contest, where people from different teams exchanged reviews. It was a good way to get something other than 'it was great'.
That was not in Eng, so no link.
