yeah. i am cis and i can see that's... awkward to do. i mean... dude, fuck yea for trans* characters but forcing it? especially if it's to squee about a pairing you put them in that's now het because you made the one character trans? dude. i've seen that and it's every type of creepy and also homophobic (or the opposite, hating a het pairing so making one trans* or genderqueer just so they aren't het, wtf people)

The weirdest thing I saw was somebody in the Les Mis fandom insisting that since Enjolras was canonically gay if you wanted to ship him and Eponine you had to make Eponine trans or genderqueer.
