Hey, I agree with all these points -- for me, writing as part of conversation is one of the big reasons for being in fandom, and certainly for posting there. People should post to the forums they find useful, for the reasons thy find useful, the end. (On the other hand, the same goes for commenters -- just because a writer WANTS to inspire conversation, that's no reason for anyone to feel obliged to give it).

And I'm glad there are smart insightful commenters on FF.net. Personally I cannot recall whether I have EVER encountered one but the audience is so big it takes all kinds (and varies a lot by fandom and by a writer's acquired audience, I imagine).
