Hyperbole. It just... I never heard anyone say it out loud for years and years after I saw it in print for the first time, so I assumed it was just "hyper bowl". I can't retrain myself to think of it a different way.

And then there's "karaoke", but everyone mispronounces it and if one pronounced it the right way everyone would look at them funny, so I'm not worrying about it.

I made the same assumption about hyperbole. Going by the standard rules of the English language, that damn E should be silent.
