I think a lot of the Quinto!Spock hate comes from people not understanding the difference between young, arrogant, by-the-book Spock and Nimoy's seasoned space-buddy vibe.

There may be a grain of truth in that, but it's mostly a big excuse. TOS!Kirk didn't lose his dad in a space attack either, but Pine's Kirk is still recognizably the same character. It's possible for the Reboot to have characters go thru different things and still be those characters, but in Spock's case...it doesn't work. Also, the complaints I've seen are largely about the fact that Spock doesn't act Vulcan, not that he doesn't act like Spock. Even by-the-book Spock doesn't act Vulcan, and he didn't act that way even before losing his planet. It's a very glaring difference.

This.
I can easily believe Pine`s Kirk is a same person in different circumstances. I just can`t believe Quinto`s Spock is the same TOS Spock. He has pretty much none of his noticeable traits.

exactly. he doesn't even seem like the same species as Spock from ToS, let alone the same character in an alternate timeline.
