had you heard the album before you ordered it? if not, does it live up to your expectations?

I had not. Pulsefear was a very obscure sideproject of the already-obscure The Axis of Perdition (indeed, I think only Silent Hill fans and people who like the weirder side of metal knew of TAOP) and up until the other day the most I'd heard of Pulsefear was on a split demo with Axis called Corridors. (Actually, the first song on this album is like a longer version of "A Figure in the Mist" from the split)

It certainly holds up to expectations, however. There's a lot of dark ambient that's mostly just really sad. There's a sinister quality to Pulsefear's work that never quite strays into outright horror like Akira Yamaoka's work, but maintains that "something horrible is going to happen" feel.

Thanks for telling me. I think this might be right up my husband's alley. He loves ambient music (and a lot of ambient music that makes me really uncomfortable because it sounds so tense). I will pass along to him.

Husband suggests you might like Lustmord vs Metal Beast (which apparently has the same kind of sound?).

Inform him that I'm familiar with Lustmord, thanks to his collaboration with Robert Rich for Stalker, which is an amazing album.
