PR does work like that. PR reps are called spin doctors for a reason. The fans are completely delusional, but they have a decent grasp of how PR works.

I suppose I said it wrong--I meant in that case specifically. For instance, it's true that Dianna Agron and Alex Pettyfer's relationship was nothing but a PR shill to get more hype for their movie, but in the case of Chris and Darren there would be literally be no purpose to such a thing? Chris is openly gay and Darren's career would not be in any way hindered by being in a relationship with him. Nor are either of their actual relationships there as "advertisement" for anything. So it's sort of stretching the concept a little in this case.
