Is it really most people who are there for the slash? I mean I like it but I would still like the show without Cecil/Carlos. It's not the slashy bits that I keep quoting to my girlfriend because I love them so much. I don't feel like I'm really that unique in that respect.

Just going to base this off of the fanfiction on Ao3. Because FF.net does not have a section and Tumblr is too hard. Of the 1627 completed fics on Ao3, 1206 are tagged with Carlos/Cecil. Does this mean the fic focuses on them? No. But is gives you a vague basis of what people are talking about.

while it's true that the fandom IS mostly all about Carlos and Cecil, it doesn't really make sense to look at fanfic stats to see whether or not the fandom is all about shipping. FanFIC is always all about shipping.

umm... yes.

You do know gen fic exists right? I have a shit ton bookmarked. And those are not focused on shipping at all...so I don't understand your point.

are you being purposely obtuse or are you really taking "FanFIC is always all about shipping." to really mean, "there are absolutely no gen fics ever" instead of the obvious, "fanfics are by and large about shipping"

most fanfics are about ships, so if you're counting fanfic stats to extrapolate data about the fandom community as a whole, you're going to see it being far more ship-heavy

always all was anon being sarcastic?

Yup. To listen to half the fandom talk, the show is about nothing except the "canon gay interracial relationship" (I've seen that exact phrase so often I've blacklisted it on tumblr).

#interracial relationship

Eurgh. I avoid fic tagged like that. Instead of telling me the post or fic involves interracial couples as a topic, theme, or even a kink, it just lets me know the author is keening for brownie points and asspats for being so progressive u guise.

You know, that never bothered me until right now, but you have a very good point there.

god yeah i remember when cassandra clare was saying that shit because cecil baldwin is narrating one of her audiobooks. but cassandra clare claiming to be a BEACON OF PROGRESSIVENESS is a subject for another day.

Fanficcers are probably most visible because they're putting stuff out there for public consumption. The rest of us are just gushing about our favorite works around the water cooler, which you probably won't see unless you're there.
