But people put it on things that aren't pictures of themselves. X_X

I've seen it used as a way of saying 'I do things like this' or 'I act like this' or 'this is something I might say/do/think about saying or doing but not actually say or do in real life'. Its original meaning was 'gratuitous picture of yourself', and then people started using it to describe things that were figuratively 'pictures of themselves', as far as I know. (If that makes any sense.)

yeah this, it's like saying 'this picture represents me' whether it's a picture of their face or not
