(Anonymous) 2013-11-14 09:03 am (UTC)(link)What you also have to remember is your fandom friends might seem obsessed with fandom because they don't share the other part of their lives in fandom spaces. I don't talk about my studies, irl friends or my travel plans on tumblr - I talk about fandom, and when I'm busy with other shit, I'm not on tumblr much. Some people do share those parts of their lives, and that's fine, but that's not my style. A lot of people I know through fandom, I don't know yet whether I have anything in common with them besides fandom, so I just talk fandomy stuff with them, and not much else.
I don't know, I've never understood this "all fandom or no fandom" mentality. It's like alcohol - I can get wasted one night, then not drink for a while, and then have a sophisticated drink with dinner, all without letting alcohol consume my whole existence and become a serious addiction. Similarly I can be neck-deep in fandom for a weekend, and then not do much fandomy stuff except chat to people on Twitter for like a week. I haven't actively read fanfiction for a few months, but last night I watched a new episode of a TV show I like that was REALLY shippy, which made me want some fic, so I went and read some. My interest in fandom comes and goes and varies from week to week, and that's totally fine.
