(Anonymous) 2013-11-15 01:19 am (UTC)(link)Yes CLAMP likes their bittersweet stories (Clover, Tokyo Babylon) as well as their more fluffy ones. BUT the biggest issue is just how damn rushed, disjointed, and abrupt xxxHolic's ending was. Not all endings will be satisfying or answer all of your questions (Lemony Snicket taught me that LONG ago), but CLAMP's execution was just sloppy. While there were nice bits in it, the last 10 or so chapters were meandering. The biggest slap in the face came from how the last time-skip (and it's implications) were presented. Two speech bubbles were all the audience were given to process that final revelation. And that was bullshit. The final scene itself would have been fine if the chapters before it had actually built anything up (before the last two). xxxHolic just ends, and it feels abrupt and flat.
