I agree that the overall plot of DAII is potentially more interesting, it's just not executed very well. And on top of that, BioWare's greatest strength has ALWAYS been its characters--and DAO's characters are simply more engaging. Again, DAII's have the *potential* to be really interesting, but the way all the conversations work and such is a lot less interesting.

Eh, to each their own. I LOATHED Alistair, Wynne and Leliana as much as I loved Zevran, Ogren and dog, if not more so. I liked all the characters in DA2 a lot, except Fenris.
And for me personally the plot in DAO was just SO crappy I could not get past it. It's liked they walked into the fantasy section of barnes and noble and pulled out a random crappy paperback.

They didn't pull out a random crappy paperback. They pulled out A Song of Ice and Fire. They even admitted that the game was heavily inspired by the series.

I would argue that how engaging DA2 characters are in comparison to DAO is in the eye of the beholder. In DAO, I personally just could not find it in myself to give a rat's ass about pretty much anyone but Shale, whereas I took an almost immediate liking to all DA2 party members who weren't Anders.
