the fact that there's a shrine at all fills me with an embarrassment that knows no bounds

I went to Cardiff January 2011 (and I went on another weekend in smaller parts of Wales, too) and while I was pretty happy to see sites that were featured on DW/Torchwood, that shrine was a bit embarrassing. Mostly because people were like "what's this for?" and it's like uhh....

At least this would get people to Wales, OP? I adored Cardiff and the other places I visited (Hay on Wye, the Brecon Beacons, Tintern Abbey) so if going to Wales for DW encourages more people to visit, I think that could be a good thing.

I had no idea there was a shrine for him either. Is it fan made or did RTD and his crew make it?

Fanmade, I believe.

I did not know there was a shrine. That is embarrassing.

Okay I agree that the shrine is dumb. But I think it's really dumb to try and tell people why they should go somewhere. Just because they're not interested in Wales culture doesn't mean they shouldn't visit Wales. It's their vacation, it can be as dumb as they want it to be.

Re: ns

This. Like, you wouldn't get pissed off at someone going to the Caribbean to lie on the beach and not learn a single thing about anything, so why does this matter so much?

Re: ns

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
IDK, this is more like going to the Caribbean and sitting in the hotel the whole time.

Re: ns

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
No it isn't. It's someone going to a new place and going to visit something that is unique to the area and makes their vacation enjoyable for them. They're under no obligation to take a history exam.

O.0 I'm sort of single and...wooow...that just urgh.

Yeah that sounds unpleasant.

Re: NF

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm curious about the "sort of single" thing. How can you only be sort of single?

Re: NF

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well I went on a friendly date with a guy after we met at a store, but afterward we started slowing down a bit to being friends. At least..I think.

I don't know....the whole thing just confuses me..urgh. I never dated in high school I don't know these unwritten rules.

We held hand but we didn't kiss. We like each other....but....I don't know what I'm supposed to say, and I just don't. I'm kinda scared if it is dating because...I just feel like I'd make a terrible girlfriend and possibly hurt him.

Well they aren't visiting Wales. They're visiting the shrine, it just so happens to be in Wales. So they aren't really wasting a trip to Wales? They're enjoying a trip to Ianto's shrine?

That's all I got for you.

Nope, they didn't spend the required 30% vacation time Enjoying the Culture. Trip wasted.

My city has a bronze statue of Fonzie from Happy Days. You can come and visit it as much as you like.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
I would go visit the Fonzie statue in a heartbeat.

(Anonymous) 2013-11-16 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Where is this glorious work of art? Because that is a place I need to go.

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2013-11-16 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Google says Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Unless there's two of these.

We've got one of Mary Tyler Moore.

Yeah, fuck anyone who doesn't want to see all the sheep and vowels.

[I've wanted to go there since I was a teenager and Wales was one of Torchwood's selling points not the other way around so stop screaming]

Wait, don't you mean lack of vowels?

Re: NS

w is a vowel (sometimes)

Ugh, seriously. I get that certain kinds of couples (like ones obsessed with Being A Couple and don’t seem to have any life outside that) can be pretty irritating, but it’s mostly just screenshots of harmlessly dumb/annoying people who also happen to be together. The blogger comes off as such a bitter asshole.
