So cute! ♥ I used to have hamsters growing up. I always wanted a guinea pig.

I had both growing up, though in all but one of the cases it was because a neighbor didn't want their pet anymore, and figured they could just give it to a neighbor kid.

If you ever do decide to get a guinea pig, may I entreat you to avoid one of the large pet store? The guinea pigs there tend not to be socialized properly growing up, and as a result, they bite a lot, and it's frustrating for both the owner and the guinea pig. If you have any questions, I don't mind answering them!

(Sorry, I just have a lot of feelings about guinea pigs. <3)

People who randomly give up their pets make me sad. Glad to hear you gave it a home :)

Oh for sure! don't like big pet stores to begin with. Their breeding and caging of animals is always sketchy. In Canada, I always hear of the puppy and kitty mills they have for their animals. It makes me so angry. So many animals need homes and they create more animals that might not be adopted, give them shitty living conditions, and treat them like crap /end rage feelings.

I have no plans to get a guinea pig right now :( I have a cat and a dog and they take up all my time. I'd love a guinea pig one day tho! My hamsters used to curl up with my cat and it was the cutest thing ever.

Never be sorry for guinea pig feeling <3 I obviously have lots of feelings on big pet stores, haha.

Yeah. In one person's defense, they might have been evicted, but it was so long ago that I can't remember for sure if that was them, or if I'm mixing people up, but yes, that's how I got hamsters Snowflake and Snowball (at different times) and guinea pig Oreo. :)

It's super sketchy, and I'm not fond of it at all. :( Especially the mills. I can sort of understand it for the more exotic animals that probably wouldn't be sent to an animal shelter/if they were, the shelter might not have the infrastructure in place to care for them (fish, lizards, birds to a degree, tarantulas, etc.) It makes me really glad that the pet stores in my are have started featuring cats from the shelter. <3

Ah, yes, that might be a good idea to wait, then. And that mental image of your cat and the hamsters sounds adorable.

Three guinea pigs. That's awesome. I'm jealous of all the cuteness! :3

I can understand exotic animals too. Fish and such aren't creatures you can get at a shelter.

That's great! Our pet stores haven't caught up to that yet. I have got my larger pets from the pound or rescue shelters. So many animals there need loving homes.

It was so cute. She just loved them. She never once tried to hurt them. They were her cuddle pals. Even when we had a mice problem, she never became a mouser. She remembered her friends and never hurt them.

Oh goodness, I'm sorry, I didn't make myself very clear; two hamsters and a guinea pig. :) (I bought the second guinea pig myself. <3) And not all at the same time, thankfully; I was rather young, I don't know if I'd have been able to be a good pet owner if that was the case. It'd be a bit overwhelming, I think. :)

No. I mean, I'm sure there are shelters that can! But not a lot.

They do! I'm hoping, if I'm ever in a position to adopt a cat, that I can find one at a shelter. (I have allergies, so I'd need to find one that doesn't trigger them too badly. Admittedly, there are some breeds that I'd like to get, someday, such as the Sphynx, but I can wait, and adopt from the shelter first, or look into a purebreed rescue.)

I know that not everyone loves the way Sphynx cats look, but I think they are cute. Especially the ones with coloured markings. Hope your search goes well if you ever choose to get one :)

Mr. Dressup is the Canadian Mr. Rogers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Dressup). I loved him so much as a kid, I named my hamster after him, haha. My mom thought it was strange, but she let it be X)

My girlfriend and I have a long silly list of pets that we're totally going to get someday. How are guinea pigs not on it??

I love them, they are adorable! It's so cute that they vibrate when they purr. And that they purr!

But! Guinea pigs are the one thing on the planet I'm allergic to. ~~(Ok, technically weeds too, but who isn't allergic to plant matter??)~~ I couldn't even been in my Girl Scout leader's house unless she'd put them upstairs the day before and vacuumed ten minutes before our meeting. It probably didn't help they had upwards of six of the buggers, depending on breeding schedules. So puffy and leaky... ><;
