I wouldn't be afraid of Holmes thinking I was dumb, because everyone IS dumb compared to him. But I would be kind of embarrassed to open the magazine and find Watson describing me in unflattering terms (or perving on me) and then knowing my friends, if not the general public, would recognize me.

(lol I flatter myself with the perving but seriously Mr. Neville St. Clair must've been going WHAT WHAT HONEY WHAT DID THIS GUY DO WHEN HE SLEPT OVER AT YOUR HOUSE WHILE I WAS GONE WHAT I WILL STRANGLE HIM.)

LOL most fans seem to usually imagine people coming to Baker Street to accost Holmes in revenge for the problems he gave them during a case, but the image of random dudes coming to yell at Watson for perving on their wives is priceless.

OMG this would be actually perfect. And the fact that there are multiple canon men who would have a motive to do this is kind of lolarious for poor Watson. Holmes would tease him so much.
