Yep, true. Not dismissing social anxiety problems here. But, for what it's worth, I think the problem is also in the fact that the understanding of what intellect is often appears to be stiffly straightforward. Many make no distinction between potential and realization, or fail to see good aspects of otherwise bad works/texts/projects/speeches/etc. "He fails at all subjects lol he must be an idiot". "He has A+ in all subjects wow he is probably a genius".
