sigh. i didn't say they don't have fandoms, they just seem to be more male-dominated and create different things and just operate differently.

generally speaking, video games don't have the same sort of fandoms that other things like books and tv shows and such have. a lot of comparatively popular video games don't have active, fanwork-producing (meaning fic, art, fanmixes, etc) fandoms as their comparable tv show/movie/book equivalent.

look at the difference in the number of fics on AO3.

i didn't include final fantasy because i haven't played the games and i'm not aware of the fandom enough to include it. though now i can see it's one of the top 5 in the AO3 categories.
