Online former friend help?

(Anonymous) 2013-11-17 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
So I'm like 95% sure that this person was a friend from a ages ago who deleted all their accounts and stuff and disappeared without saying a word. I commented one of their things and responded amicably and ended it with friend and they have the same birthday as my old friend.

How should I go about asking them if they were my old friend or should I even ask them at all?

Personally I wouldn't bother. If they really changed everything and cut off all contact from their former online persona, they probably don't want to make any connections back to it. Best to leave it where it lies, I think.

This is prob obvious but, don't do it publicly. However you contact them, make sure it's a private message or email. Also only bother asking if you genuinely want to start up the friendship again, and not just because you're curious.

You could always say something like "Hey, you seem really familiar. Did you maybe go by X Name previously?"

Short and simple. Maybe add that you were friends and missed the person, idk.
